We had a great beginning to our year with our first School Council Meeting on
Wednesday evening. 17 parents attended with their children and babysitting
was provided. Parents elected our two Co-chairs, Natacha Ruiz Tardif and
Sarah Taylor. Also elected was our Council Secretary, Heather Reith. This
year, we are hoping to attract more parents by alternating our meeting times.
Our next School Council Meeting will take place on Thursday, October 12th at
3:10 – 4:10 pm in our Learning Commons. Babysitting and snacks will be
provided.

Thanks for Nora and her Grade 5/6 class who did the kickoff for our annual
Terry Fox fundraiser. Students have started contributing their toonies for
Cancer research. Our Terry Fox Run/Walk takes place on Tuesday, September
26th at 9:00 am.

I would like to extend a welcome to Ms Kathy McCord, who will be joining us in
all our math classes from JK to Grade 6 at St. Anthony this year. Ms McCord
will be our Math Partner teacher. She will work most Wednesdays with both
teachers and students, as we continue our focus on mathematics. I encourage
all of you to tweet out your math ideas on Wednesdays to our community. Let
me know if you are interested in having the St. Anthony twitter password and
I will send it to you. Or you may wish to use your own twitter account –
whatever works best for you.

As part of our Green initiatives this week, students in Grades 1 to 6 will be
participating in our City of Ottawa Fall Yard Cleanup this Thursday,
September 21st. As well, a group of Carleton University students have
volunteered to join us this Saturday, September 23rd to help further with our
yard and grounds cleanup.
As I mentioned at our first staff meeting, we will be adopting a school wide
anti-bullying program this year, entitled the WITS Program. Our kickoff
assembly for this program will be on Tuesday, October 3rd. In the meantime,
I’m going to ask some of our junior students to make posters to post around

the school. I encourage you to go to www.witsprogram.ca and read about this
program. We’ll be spending some time at our next staff meeting on this
program. If you would like to help launch and promote this around our school,

Summary of Meeting (Sept. 13, 2017)

Hi all,

Thank you again for coming at our meeting yesterday. Many of you attended our first school council meeting, and we got the opportunity to share many interesting ideas and projects. It was really good to see you all.

Our next meeting is : October 12, 2017 at 3:10pm
Free snacks will be served, and babysitting provided.

Please find below a summary of the meeting. If you have questions or comments, please send us and email.

1. Principal Report:

  • Mrs. AB gave us a status update on what happened in the school during the summer. Many repairs were done to the building (parking lot, fence, paint, etc.)
  • The green club is a huge success, the school won a gold award, and many new students joined the club this year.
  • There will be a yard cleaning event on Thursday Sept. 21. All volunteers are welcome to help cleaning the yard. Details to come via cinervoice email.
  • It is very important to respect the rules of the school for pick ups and drop offs.

2. Elections:

  • Elections took place and Heather was voted as secretary. Sarah and Natacha were voted as co-chairs.
  • There is always room for more parents to help, if you want to join us, send us an email. If you don't want to have an official role, coming to our monthly meeting is a great way to help the community.

3. Communicaiton between the school and the families:

  • It is the responsibility of each teacher to communicate to the families of their classroom about the child's education. Each teacher will do that in their own way. The agenda is a standardized way of communication throughout the school, but some teachers have also a blog, other use newsletter, etc.
  • For the communication about the school in general, cinnervoice email will be used by the principal. If the school doesn't have your email address, please call the office (613-235-0340) to make sure they do.
  • As per the school council, we will use this blog and our monthly meetings. We are also available via email.

4. Breakfast Club

  • The breakfast club is free and available to all students. It starts at 8am and it is a great opportunity for your kids to see their friends and make sure they eat a healthy breakfast. Please used the front door on Booth St. to access the school and drop your kids to the program.

5. School Cash Online - https://ocsb.schoolcashonline.com/

  • We strongly encourage all parents to register to school cash online. It allows you to pay for your child's various fees (milk, pizza, activities, etc) directly online with a credit or debit card. This will reduce the amount of money that is sent to the school, which creates a lot of extra work. If you experience any issues or have any questions about registering to school cash online, please call Karine at 613-235-0340.

6. NAC

  • We are organizing a great event to be able to bring the students to the NAC. Details to come, but we are very excited about that. More discussion to come in the October meeting.

7. Next Event : Halloween Party (October 26 at 4:00pm)

  • Our next event is our annual Halloween Party. It will take place on Thursday, October 26 from 4pm to 6pm. Kids must be accompanied by a parent to attend. They are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes. We are looking for volunteers for the following: decorating before the event, clean-up after the event, bake a cake). We also brainstormed ideas of activities to do during the event (music, face painting, birthday celebration, pumpkin decoration, etc.) More details to be discussed at the October meeting.

Have a great week everyone, and thank you again for coming to our meeting!
